Wendy reads Don't Lick the Dog and introduces good dog manners. With drawings, photos, puppets, stuffed dogs, and — on occasion and when pre-approved — real live Delta Society therapy dogs, Wendy shows the basics of how to meet new dogs safely. Children are encouraged to interact during the reading by calling out answers and imitating gestures and movements that are soothing to dogs. Special attention is devoted to kids who are afraid of dogs.

A second slideshow features samples of Wendy’s artwork, from childhood gems like “Sam the Ham” to her more recent work. The show continues with a look at Wendy’s picture books in various stages, such as notes, thumbnails, and dummies. Then comes a segment on the importance of doodling (daydreaming with a pencil), reading pictures (pictograms, traffic signs, rebuses), and noticing stories in songs, theater, movies, poems, and, of course, books. The show closes with photos of Wendy’s pets — and a reading of her latest book.

Most visits include drawing with the kids and a Q&A period.
